A short time ago, a month or so, I was given an opportunity to help at my home church. While back in the sacristy, an older woman named Carol and I were talking. She asked a few questions about school and which seminary I plan to attend. After finding out that her husband, a second career pastor, had passed away three years ago she continued to ask me a wonderful question. You might have caught on already, but just in case, she asked if I would be interested in her late husbands books! My obvious response was, "absolutely."
Over the past month I have received many great books that will be useful and necessary for seminary. What a blessing. I told Carol yesterday while I was picking up more books that I am overwhelmed with her giving-heart. She instantly reminded me that God had it in mind for us to meet and how great it is to give to the next generation of pastors. After moving a bookshelf into my room last night my little brother and I spent some time unpacking and organizing my 'new' books. Take a look at this...
This is the lovely three volume (four with the index) Christian Dogmatics by F. Pieper. What a great blessing. Even though this summer has been hard, having Jess be so far away and a plethora of other things, it is great to have God remind me that His blessings are a bigger encouragement than the set backs and frustrations.

Nice, very nice. I'm pretty sure Nick would be jealous. Not of all the Lutheran crap (kidding, N likes Luther), but of books in general.
Check out the August 5 picture on my latest blog post; that's a pretty good view of our living room wall in all its booked glory.
Great background of booked glory, but straight up marachino cherry juice?! Do you know that most likely has high fructose corn syrup! Geez, opening the door for an early grave like that. Tsk tsk.
Yeah, funny thing about "all the Lutheran crap" is that if I were to leave the Synod or the ministry in gerenal this lady, who gave me the books, asked if I would pass them on. Since, I then would have no further use for them. They are mostly Lutheran-esque books.
SOOOOO JEALOUS!! Holy cow! You told me about this over the phone once, but I'm still incredibly jealous!!!
My heart is burning with envy.
And you know what the kicker is, T... She told me that there are more volumes of Luther's Works and she thought there might have been a full set!
On an additional note, I saw Maschke today and he seemed much better and back to his regular self. They also remodeled the lower Luther wing. It looks pretty sweet.
Two weeks and counting till the mad-ness begins all over again
1. Oh honey, I think I might drink straight up marachino cherry juice even if it had leprosy in it. It's that good.
2. What was wrong with Maschke?
3. No need to put a hyphen in the middle of "madness."
4. Wow. You are still at Concordia. I'm sorry.
